Unlike a standard yoga class where silence is golden, baby yoga is loud, unpredictable, and joyful. The atmosphere is supportive and completely judgment-free.
For the little ones, yoga is essentially « assisted stretching » through play. The movements are designed to support their growing bodies:
- Digestive Help: Gentle leg movements, to help relieve gas and colic.
- Motor Skills: « Tummy time » variations to strengthen the neck and core as well as gentle hip and arms stretches.
- Sensory Play: Using bubbles, colorful scarves, or singing songs to keep them engaged while their limbs are gently guided into stretches.
- Socialization: It’s often a baby’s first chance to stare wide-eyed at another human their own size.
What the Parents Do:
Parents (or caregivers) are the « instructors » for their own babies. However, the class usually includes benefits for the adults too:
- Postnatal Recovery: Gentle stretches focused on the « nursing hunch » (shoulders and neck) and rebuilding core stability
- Bonding: Deep breathing exercises performed while holding or looking at the baby to strengthen the emotional attachment.
- Community: Parents can benefit from meeting other parents, exchanging, sharing experiences.
Please bring a soft blanket and anything that you and your baby may need during the class.
